Luniee Flame Humidifier

Mist rises through an amber light and reads as a slow flame that never settles. It's the piece people pick up to look at, and it happens to be a working humidifier — which is the point. In a bedroom or an office it puts moisture back into air that's been dried out by heating or aircon, and after dark it's the only light you need.

Ultrasonic, so there's no heating element and no noise beyond a faint hiss. Add a few drops of essential oil to the water and it diffuses as it runs.

Good to know

• Use tap or filtered water — not oils alone in the tank
• Rinse the tank every few days; mineral scale is what kills cheap humidifiers
